We chose to return to Il Roseto to spend the few days before our wedding in Italy, which I mention only to emphasise our confidence that we would again find a warm welcome and a beautiful experience. Much has been said about the quality and cleanliness of the rooms, the delicious breakfasts, and the warmth and helpfulness of the proprietors. All will meet the highest expectations, but in addition you can expect to feel that you are among trusted friends. For example, while personal safes are provided in the rooms, I would not for one moment worry if I forgot to use one and instead left my wallet and cash on the dressing table for the day! If honest people, warmth, cleanliness and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere are important to you, then Il Roseto is the place to be in Sorrento! Graham and Alison
We all loved our 3 days at Il Roseto! We were 2 couples traveling together, each with our teenage daughters. We stayed in 2 rooms here for 3 nights. Our room was the mini apartment where there is a wonderfully comfortable bed upstairs and another bed downstairs for our girls. There was lots of room to spread out and even a little kitchen that we used one night to make our own dinner after buying the ingredients from a nearby grocery. The breakfast was our favorite in Italy. We were served an assortment of delicious rolls from a nearby bakery along with made to order coffees and fantastic freshly squeezed orange juice. The walk into town from either train station is not the best, but it is not long and worth it to come back each evening to this quiet spot in the lemon grove away from the noisy downtown traffic. I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Sorrento!
Okay, the truth is that Il Roseto doesn't need another review telling you how great the breakfasts are, how friendly the staff is, how clean and perfect the rooms are...but it's all true and then some! The only "downside" listed in reviews from other folks is that it's a bit of a walk to/from town. 15 to 20 minutes as some reviews said seemed to be an exaggeration. Our group of 5 travelers who are in their early 30s and are used to varied levels of physical activity found it to be a "non-issue". The only time it was inconvenient was on arrival/departure from the train station (because we had luggage). We wish we could've spent our whole stay in Italy at Il Roseto. Note: take Michael's restaurant recommendations, you won't be disappointed!
The owners of Il Roseto go out of their way to make you stay not only the best you can find in Sorrento, but the best I have had in all of Italy. The rooms could not be cleaner, nor the beds more confortable. Both Antonino and Michale, your hosts, are both knowledgable about hikes, walks and restaurants, but also about the local history. If they don't know the answer to your questions, they will find the answers! The breakfast is not only over the top, but amazing. Every morning they go to a local bakery and get the 6 or 7 different sweets. They also buy fresh bread and serve the best coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice I have had in Italy. Truely, if you want to spend some time in Sorrento, Il Roseto is the place to stay. Yes, you will have a short walk to the downtown piazza, but I find it not only enjoyable (a bit traffic filled, but where in italy do you find only quiet streets to walk down...? ) but filled with many smiles and many classic italian activities surrounding you.
We stayed at Il Roseto for three nights in November 2006. The Bed & Bbreakfast consists of four rooms, located in separate building from the main house. Our room was spotless and came with some very nice unexpected amenties, such as satellite television and a minibar. The bathroom was absolutely gorgeous - I wish we could have taken it with us. Upon opening the shutters we didn't have a view, per se, but we loved looking out and seeing the orange groves. The family that runs the Bed & Breakfast was extremely friendly and welcoming. They took the time to answer questions and to give us restaurant recommendations. Each morning, we would wake up and be invited into the main house, where guests were served a hearty breakfast (by Italian standards). Sitting around the kitchen table, we were served fresh squeezed orange juice, pastries, yogurt and bread. At least three generations of the host family live in the house, so it was very pleasant to sit around the table and break bread with them. Those moments provided some of my fondest memories of the trip. TIP: The one thing that I didn't expect (through no fault of our hosts) was that Sorrento is quite big. Located towards the edge of town, the Bed & Breakfast is about a 15-20 minute walk from the main part of Sorrento. If you like to walk, it's not a problem and there are also buses that stop very near the B&B. If you plan to leave the B&B several times per day (i.e. lunch, nap, shopping, dinner) you may want to consider renting a car or a moped.
I just wanted to Thank You again for the wonderful stay my friend and I had at your hotel on Thursday November 16th, 2006. The room and breakfast were wonderful. I would love to return to Sorrento and to your hotel and I would recommend it to everybody. Thanks. Again
Our 23 year old daugher, Alexandra, and her (very nice) boyfriend, Daniel, when to Italy. They said this was their best hotel out of their four residences. They loved the breakfast, friendly staff and use of the pool. It's not in the city, but just a short walk away. They rented a scooter, which didn't surprise us since we know how Alex can be a bit lazy in the mornings.
What a wonderful bed and breakfast! The people are so friendly and the rooms and beautiful. What more could you ask than to look out your window and see oranges and lemons growing? The breakfast was wonderful, especially the fresh-squeezed orange juice and pastries. We had a wonderful time and will not hesitate to recommend Il Roseto to our friends and family. Thanks for a wonderful time.
The breakfast was excellent, room was clean and tidy, as was the location. 15 to 20 minute walk to the main town square, The staff were very helpfull and also gave us advise on restaurants and tourist sites. Antonino took us to a favourite restaurant of his on his recommendation, we had a fabulous 25th Wedding Annivesary meal, I would recommend the restaurant, the veiws were fantastic. My wife and I had a fantastic time at il Roseto and would certainly recommend it to anyone. My thanks go to Michele & Antonino for all there help and advise while we stayed there and we wish you all the best for the future
Il Roseto was the best place we stayed in italy. Everything about the place was very good, breakfasts were execelent and the people running the B&B spoke very good english was very helpful in all ways. Will visit again.
What a great B&B! When we arrived, we received a warm welcome and were taken to our immaculate rooms. The owners, Michael and Tony , are terrific and getting to know the two of them was a BIG plus. They were always available when we had questions or needed help. They helped us to better understand the train schedules, they gave us restaurant recommendations (where the locals eat) and they gave us a lot of information about Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. We took their advice and had some wonderful day trips. On our first evening in Sorrento, Tony drove us to a wonderful restaurant totally off the tourist track and picked us up after we were finished with our meal. Our breakfasts were excellent (great pastries), and the walk from the B&B into town gave us the opportunity to observe local life. And, on our last day, Tony drove us to the train station. We have stayed in MANY B&B's in our travels, but never in one that provided so many special services. The B&B itself is terrific, but the icing is the incredible hospitality and kindness of Tony and Michael.
We were met in the courtyard reception area by Antonino, co-proprietor. He was very friendly, and he seemed to know who we were even before we introduced ourselves. He immediately showed us to our room, which was groundfloor and right off the courtyard (as are all their rooms). He did not simply "go through motions" when showing our room, but he took pains to ensure that all of our questions were answered and that we felt at home. This was by far the warmest welcome we received during our two-week tour of Italy. The room itself was wonderful. VERY clean (his wife tends to the daily upkeep), and well furnished. The writing desk chair was beautifully upholsetered, the bathroom was spotless with ornate tiles, and the wood-working around the doors, door-jams, and base boards was particularly elegant. Some people have complained that it is a bit of a walk away from downtown. 2 comments: 1) a simple ten-minute walk to your hotel room is a small price to pay for a clean, cozy, and QUIET room. 2) Downtown Sorrento is VERY congested, and VERY loud. We gladly walked the 10 minutes to Il Roseto; it is well worth it to feel like you're walking home instead of another tired, worn out hotel with drunken neighbors. Finally, the breakfast was well worth it (bread, pastries, cappucinos, yogurt, bottled water, and fersh-squeezed OJ with home grown oranges. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in a refreshing night's sleep to ensure a good day of site-seeing.
Our stay was wonderful and the family run b and b were very friendly and helpful. I would greatly recommend this place to anyone going to Sorrento.
